About This Condition
Headaches often follow a recurrent, episodic course, with frequency and severity influenced by genetics, hormonal changes, sleep, stress, environmental triggers, and comorbid conditions. Many individuals experience stable patterns over years, while others have periods of increased frequency or evolution from episodic to more chronic headache. Primary headaches may remain disabling without recognition and structured treatment but often respond to education, trigger modification, appropriate acute therapies, and preventive strategies. Secondary headaches typically follow the course of the underlying condition, and changes in pattern, severity, or associated features should prompt reassessment for new or evolving causes.
Common Symptoms
- •Persistent fatigue and reduced stamina that are disproportionate to prior activity levels and not fully relieved by rest
- •Post-exertional symptom exacerbation, with worsening of fatigue, pain, or cognitive symptoms after physical or mental activity
- •Cognitive complaints such as difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, memory lapses, or subjective “brain fog”
- •Sleep disturbance, including trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking unrefreshed
- •Diffuse myalgias, arthralgias, or generalized aches without focal inflammatory findings on examination
- •Lightheadedness, palpitations, or orthostatic intolerance in some individuals, suggestive of dysautonomia
- •Mood changes such as increased anxiety, irritability, or low mood that may be reactive to or intertwined with physical symptoms

Our Functional Medicine Approach
Recovery from a virus shouldn't take a year
Some patients never fully recover from EBV, flu, COVID, Lyme, mono, or other viral illnesses. The pattern is recognizable: persistent fatigue, brain fog, exercise intolerance, sleep disruption, and a body that just won't reset. The drivers are typically some combination of viral reactivation, mitochondrial damage, autonomic dysregulation, gut-immune changes, and HPA-axis disruption — all of which can be measured and treated.
How Spire works the root cause
Our Unexplained Symptoms Program runs viral reactivation panels (EBV, CMV, HHV-6), mitochondrial and autonomic markers, gut-immune evaluation, and HPA-axis mapping. We pace recovery deliberately to avoid post-exertional crashes, while treating the underlying drivers so your body actually exits the post-viral state instead of camping in it.
Who this is for
Adults whose energy, cognition, or stamina hasn't returned to baseline after a viral illness, patients with EBV / mono histories that never fully resolved, and people whose lives have changed shape around symptoms no one has been able to fully explain.
